Breitbarties: Angry, as usual

You might not think that a two-paragraph post about NFL ratings would inspire much, er, debate on Breitbart. You’d be wrong.

In this edition of Today in Breitbart Comments, we take a look at the Breitbarties who’ve worked themselves into a bit of a tizzy about Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd’s claim that it’s the election, not anger over Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protests, that is causing a notable droop in the ratings for NFL games this year.

The Breitbart rage isn’t itself all that terribly surprising. What is a little odd is that some of the most virulent comments — of the more than 1700 that have been left so far — are attacks on trans folks.

Consider this unhinged rant:

Other comments on the subject are only a tad more hinged. Upset over the NCAA’s recent announcement that it will pull all championship games from North Carolina in protest over the anti-trans HB2 bathroom bill, Breitbarties fantasize about leading a counter-boycott — and exacting some kind of revenge upon their foes.

Well, that’s a little creepy.

But don’t worry! There was racism as well. Lots and lots of racism. Here’s a small selection:

The Alt-Right: Definitely not a bunch of Nazis, no way!

You might think the Alt-Right — that motley gang of Nazis, Nazi-apologists, and Nazi-apologist-apologists that has provided Donald Trump with some of his most fervent support — would be riding high right now.

Their “God Emperor” has been elected president. Traffic to their most popular websites, from Breitbart to the Daily Stormer, is soaring. The latest National Policy Institute conference, which brought hundreds of alt-righters to Washington DC this past weekend, got more attention from the mainstream media than it ever has before.

It’s that last item that’s turning into a bit of a problem — at least for those alt-rightists who like to pretend that they’re not really Nazis at all. Yesterday I posted a chilling video from the event, showing  conference-organizer Richard Spencer, clearly feeling a bit chuffed by the at-right’s recent victories,  crying out “hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory” to a large crowd, some of whom responded with Nazi salutes.

D’oh! They’re not supposed to be doing that in public.

And so, as the video of Spencer’s speech went viral, posted on countless news outlets and replayed on cable news, a veritable civil war erupted on the alt-right over Spencer’s words and the now infamous “Hail Trump” salutes.

Alt-right fellow traveler (and erstwhile juice seller) Mike Cernovich, clearly upset by the bad publicity the video was bringing to the movement he has hitched his star to, accused Spencer and the Nazi saluters of being secret shills trying to make the good men of the alt-right look like the Hitler-loving Nazis they so often declare themselves not to be.

“Let’s assume your goal is to normalize Nazis, which is what has been said at Richard Spencer,” Cernovich declared in a blog post with the combative title This is What Controlled Opposition Looks Like.

If you wanted to normalize being a Nazi, would you throw up an Heil Hitler in public after you invited over 100 fake news journalists to your event? Think this one through before forming an opinion.

Note: By “fake news journalists” Cernovich of course means real “news journalists.’

Why then were people at the event throwing up the HH? What tactical or strategic purpose could that possibly serve?

This is what controlled opposition looks like.

The Atlantic (and perhaps the CIA) is building up Richard’s brand, giving him millions in free PR. The fake news media ties Richard to Trump. In exchange for these goodies, Richard throws up a HH.

Damn you, The Atlantic (and perhaps the CIA)!

Cernovich was hardly the only one to cry foul.

Fantasy author and bigot extraordinaire Theodore “Vox Day” Beale didn’t go quite as far as Cernovich. But, in a post on his Vox Popoli blog, he declared the Nazi saluters “idiots” and attacked Spencer himself for being “tactically retarded.”

Beale dismissed the whole “Hail Trump” business as a “minor incident” that had been magnified by the evil mainstream media. He then offered a rather spectacularly backhanded “defense” of Spencer

No, I don’t think Richard is a federal agent or an actual controlled opposition figure,” Beale wrote, before twisting the knife a little.

I think Mike would have been more accurate to say “controllable opposition” or “dancing monkey”. 

Usually when you’re defending someone you don’t call them a “dancing monkey,” but whatevs.

There was nothing actually wrong with what Richard said. … It wasn’t a big deal. But it was a foolish thing to do. The media is absolutely slavering to be able to have REAL PROOF that the Alt-Right are no-good, very-evil Nazis so that they can use it as a weapon against President-elect Trump, giving them ANYTHING is tactically retarded.

Nazi salutes in public, in full view of the media, are bad for the Trump.

It’s not about Richard. It’s about Donald Trump. If Richard is genuinely supportive of Trump, then pulling that sort of stunt was the very last thing he should have done. Making yourself the news story at the expense of the individual you are supposedly supporting and celebrating smacks of being self-serving. As Mike said, dress up like a Nazi, speak bad German and wear a swastika armband if you want, just leave Trump out of it.

Richard has failed to learn the lesson of #GamerGate and the principles of 4GW. He wants to be the media-anointed leader of the Alt-Right because he believes, wrongly, that this will help him achieve his objectives. It won’t. As Mike and I have both noted, the media elevates fringe figures to “leadership” specifically in order to attack the movement through them. 

Oh, but Beale isn’t jealous of the attention Spencer has been getting. Ha! As if! So not jealous.

I am not opposed to Richard or jealous of Richard, nor do I want the attention he is receiving. I rather like him, I simply don’t think he understands that the media intends for him to become a David Duke figure, a weapon available for deployment against any politician or program that he nominally supports.

Yes, how terrible it is that the media compares people with basically the same views as David Duke to … David Duke!

On VDare.com, meanwhile, anti-immigrant crusader Peter Brimelow attacked the saluters, declaring that their “juvenile bravado undercut NPI’s conference triumph, the cause of immigration patriotism, and VDARE.com.”

But Brimelow somehow managed to blame not them but the media and the anti-anti-immigrant left, noting unhappily that fans of his website “came up to me in consternation” after

Spencer concluded his emotional defense of whites with the words, apparently extemporized: “Hail Trump! Hail Our People! Hail Victory!” He got a standing ovation, but several in the crowd added Nazi salutes. We had been assured that the press had been excluded but experience has taught this cannot be relied upon.

Damn those reporters for … actually reporting!

Also, leftists and the media were also responsible for the Nazi salutes themselves — by unfairly smearing totally not racist anti-immigration crusaders like himself. “[T]his continued vilification,” Brimelow sniffed,

has resulted a younger generation of Americans who, 71 years after the end of World War II, are clearly indifferent to accusations of Nazism, even if just out of bravado. This, too, is the fault of the Left and the gatekeepers of our public debate.

Well, that’s one way of looking at it, I guess. One bizarre, wrong way.

The unlovely and untalented Matt Forney offered a somewhat less backhanded defense of Spencer and his fans’ “Roman salutes.”

While Mike Cernovich recently accused Spencer and NPI of being controlled opposition due to several of the attendees jokingly making Roman salutes at the end of the conference, I have to pour cold water on this notion. The alt-Right is increasingly driven by young men who enjoy trolling for trolling’s sake and getting a rise out of the normies.

IT WAS ALL A JOKE HA HA HA HOW could anyone think that a bunch of people who walk like Hitler, talk like Hitler and salute like Hitler could actually have anything to do with Hitler.

Hell, our nametags even had pictures of Pepe the Frog on them.

PEPE THE FROG. Q.E.D.

While I can see why Cernovich might think the stunt was dumb, it wasn’t motivated by anything other than a desire to offend the MSM’s sensibilities. There are certainly feds who have infiltrated the alt-Right—he’s right to warn us on that front—but Spencer and NPI aren’t among them.

An even stranger, er, analysis of the whole kerfuffle comes from the farther reaches of Anton Lavey cosplayer and skull enthusiast Davis Aurini.

Vox Day corrects some of the wilder claims made by Cernovich (it is unlikely that Richard Spencer is a government plant; his hair is too fabulous), but the thrust of the argument remains. We have been using the tactics of the underdog for some time now. As many have noted, we’re the new anti-establishment hippies … but we’re no longer the underdog – and if we continue to use underdog tactics, we will become no different than the neo-hippies whom we are in the process of replacing. We will continue to fight the last war, and we will lose as certainly as Hitler’s Germany did, paving the way for the destruction of our own people.

So is he suggesting that the main problem with Hitler is that he lost? Who knows.

We cannot hope to get anywhere if we continue to be reactionary. The way to crush the Left isn’t to fight them; then we merely become them. The way to crush the left is to return to the upward pull, to build a civilization which glorifies God and which has earned the Mandate of Heaven. To strive for perfection while forgiving imperfection, rather than defining perfection as whatever we are already, while attacking those who are unlike us.

I’m sorry, I dozed off for a minute there.

What of the man at the center of this alt-hurricane? Richard Spencer is taking the Forney Way, declaring that it was all just one big hilarious joke.

“There’s an ironic exuberance to it all,” Spencer told NBC news.  “I think that’s … one of the things that makes the alt-right fun, is that we’re willing to do things that are a bit cheeky.”

SO CHEEKY.

Here’s that video again. I don’t know about you, but I’m having a hard time seeing anything he said as “cheeky” or “ironic,” much less “fun.”

Who are you going to believe, Spencer — or your lying eyes?

Anyone wbo has read this blog for any length of time is well aware how adept Men’s Rights Activists are at convincing themselves (if not necessarily anyone else) that they are the true victims in any given situation.

Indeed, writer and workshopper Warren Farrell, whose books have provided much of the intellectual underpinning of MRA ideology, has argued in complete seriousness that men are victimized by women’s butts. A shapely posterior, you see, has such a hypnotizing power over your typical horny man that young women have what he once called “miniskirt power” over their male bosses at work.

An article in today’s New York Times suggests that many Trump voters are equally adept at painting themselves as the victims — in their case not of butts but of liberal meanies.

It’s an absolute must read. Not because it’s a good article — it’s terrible — but because it is so revealing, not only about Trump voters but also about the strange reluctance of so many in the supposedly liberal press to hold Trump voters accountable for anything they say or do. Indeed, the basic thesis of the piece — titled “Are Liberals Helping Trump?” — is that liberals are being so mean to Trump voters that they’re pushing them even further into Trumpland.

The piece starts with a brief portrait of Jeffrey Medford, a South Carolinian who voted “reluctantly” for the most dangerous man to ever occupy the Oval Office. Trouble is, when he brings this up in any venue also frequented by liberals, they’re like all mean to him.

Mr. Medford should be a natural ally for liberals trying to convince the country that Mr. Trump was a bad choice. But it is not working out that way. Every time Mr. Medford dips into the political debate — either with strangers on Facebook or friends in New York and Los Angeles — he comes away feeling battered by contempt and an attitude of moral superiority.

“We’re backed into a corner,” said Mr. Medford, 46, whose business teaches people to be filmmakers. “There are at least some things about Trump I find to be defensible. But they are saying: ‘Agree with us 100 percent or you are morally bankrupt. You’re an idiot if you support any part of Trump.’ ”

He added: “I didn’t choose a side. They put me on one.”

Uh, dude, you put yourself on the side of an unstable, authoritarian bigot by voting for him. If you didn’t know what you were getting when you voted for him, then you weren’t paying attention. Trump started out his campaign with an explicitly racist attack on Mexican immigrants, and it pretty much went downhill from there. During his campaign, he revealed himself to be a bully and a chronic liar with no understanding of the job he felt he deserved, a man morally and practically unfit to be president.

And now Trump is making good, or at least trying to, on his terrible promises. His only redeeming feature is that he is so ignorant and inept that he’s fucking it up.

Oh, and did I mention that he’s hellbent on taking away the insurance I and literally millions of other Americans depend on for necessary treatment for the chronic health issues that insurance companies like to call “ongoing conditions?”

So, yeah, some of us are a bit testy.

The article’s author, Sabrina Tavernise, sets forth a thesis that more or less mirrors Medford’s self-pitying “argument.”

Liberals may feel energized by a surge in political activism, and a unified stance against a president they see as irresponsible and even dangerous. But that momentum is provoking an equal and opposite reaction on the right.

“Provoking.” I don’t want to sound, you know, mean here, but this is the logic abusers use to blame their victims for their own abusive meltdowns. It’s a kind of argument that seems to come naturally to MRAs, Trump supporters, and Trump-supporter enablers.

In recent interviews, conservative voters said they felt assaulted by what they said was a kind of moral Bolshevism — the belief that the liberal vision for the country was the only right one. 

Assaulted? You know who else feels assaulted? The longtime residents of this country who have been arrested and deported by ICE, including one woman picked up at a courthouse after she complained of domestic abuse. The Muslims held for hours in airports as a result of Trump’s profoundly un-American executive order.

Is it “self-righteous” for those opposed to Trump to point out the actual effects of his bigoted policies?

Protests and righteous indignation on social media and in Hollywood may seem to liberals to be about policy and persuasion. But moderate conservatives say they are having the opposite effect, chipping away at their middle ground and pushing them closer to Mr. Trump.

Again, it’s the logic of an abuser: “You made me hit you!”

“The name calling from the left is crazy,” said Bryce Youngquist, 34, who works in sales for a tech start-up in Mountain View, Calif., a liberal enclave where admitting you voted for Mr. Trump is a little like saying in the 1950s that you were gay.

First, it’s not “a little like” that at all. Second, are you seriously complaining that the left is … calling you names?

I mean, you do remember all of this, don’t you?

I feel just terrible for these people.

Mr. Younquist wasn’t quite so open about his Trump support.

“The only place he felt comfortable wearing his Make America Great Again hat,” Tavernise informs us,

was on a vacation in China. Even dating became difficult. Many people on Tinder have a warning on their profile: “Trump supporters swipe left” — meaning, get lost.

“They were making me want to support him more with how irrational they were being,” Mr. Youngquist said.

I hate to tell you this, Mr. STEMLOGIC, but that’s not a very rational response at all.

Tavernise weighs in again with her equally stupid opinion. Which is pretty much the same opinion as all the Trump supporters she interviewed.

[I]f political action is meant to persuade people that Mr. Trump is bad for the country, then people on the fence would seem a logical place to start. Yet many seemingly persuadable conservatives say that liberals are burning bridges rather than building them.

How “persuadable” is someone who gets so mad that some women don’t want to date guys they violently disagree with politically that he decides he’s just going to SUPPORT TRUMP EVEN HARDER SO THERE TAKE THAT!!!1!!

But no Trump supporter may have suffered more for her beliefs than Ann O’Connell, a “retired administrative assistant in Syracuse who voted for Mr. Trump” despite being a registered Democrat. (She apparently liked Trump’s promise to build a big old wall to protect her from all the evil Mexicans who are creeping over our southern border and then I guess for some reason creeping all the way up to Syracuse, NY, not far from the Canadian border, where the percentage of Hispanics is far below the national average and which is actually a really terrible place to look for jobs right now.)

Anyway, Ms. O’Connell has suffered mightily for her beliefs. For she can no longer enjoy Meryl Streep movies! You know, because that mean actress lady gave that speech about how shitty it is to mock disabled people.

Mrs. O’Connell feels hopeless. She has deleted all her news feeds on Facebook and she tries to watch less TV. But politics keeps seeping in.

“I love Meryl Streep, but you know, she robbed me of that wonderful feeling when I go to the movies to be entertained,” she said.

Here’s my question: is it possible that these Trump supporters are feeling so defensive about their vote for president because on some level they know what they did was indefensible?

Or am I just being mean for even asking that question?

Fellas! Has this ever happened to you?

You’re at the grocery store, stocking up on Hot Pockets and Mountain Dew, when all of a sudden you discover a human female in the middle of the Frozen Food aisle with her shopping cart. You point out that she is blocking your access to the T.G.I.Friday’s Cream Cheese Poppers; she apologizes and moves out of your way.

Seems innocent enough, right? NOT SO FAST. This lady may have just HARVESTED YOUR MALE GAZE for her own nefarious purposes, using her ability to get your attention to “wield …power over you for narcissistic or material gain.”

According to Gynocentrism.com publisher Peter Wright, writing for Men’s Rights hate site A Voice for Men, this lady may have been using a SEEKRIT FEMALE TRICK known as THE BLOCKADE.

This happens when you are the target of a woman who wants to slow you down and make you absorb her presence. She will stand in the doorway, middle of the footpath, or in the shopping center aisle sometimes aided by a shopping trolley which she leaves strategically placed across the aisle.

Sneaky sneaky!

If done well, this forces an interaction: “Excuse me, I’ll just move your trolley so I can get past,” to which she replies “Oh, I’m so sorry,” while flashing her most attractive features at you – her favorite dress, beautifully shampoo’d hair, or that smile she was famed for in high school.

Damn these wily females and their habit of REGULARLY WASHING THEIR HAIR.

And this is but one of many sneaky male-gaze-harvesting techniques practiced by the modern female.

Men’s Rights Activists have long argued that women secretly control men using the hypnotic power of their sexy,sexy bodies. Warren Farrell, the intellectual godfather of the Men’s Rights movement, famously suggested in his 1993 book The Myth of Male Power that women in the workplace use “miniskirt power” and “cleavage power” to get the better of their male bosses.

When it came time a couple of years ago to pick a new picture for the latest edition of this book, Farrell couldn’t quite decide which sexy female body part he wanted to highlight, ultimately settling on an arty picture of a woman’s butt, apparently the fundamental source of female power over hapless lady-butt-loving men.

But as Wright makes clear, women have much more than butts in their, er, arsenal. Sneaky women can “harvest” the male gaze by:

Wearing brightly colored “hats, shawls and scarfs … with the wearers settling for nothing less than complete molestation from every set of eyes in the immediate vicinity.”

Using eye-catching accessories to draw male attention — from handbags to dogs and children. Yes, that’s right. You may have assumed that the woman you saw walking down the street this morning with a small child in tow was simply, you know, being a parent, but in reality she may have been trying to SWIPE YOUR MALE GAZE.

[C]hildren can be fawned over, or chastised, just as a target male walks by, where mother will say “Don’t let that nice man see you eating candy” or “Don’t get in the way of the nice man or you might get hurt.”

I’ll take “sentences never actually uttered by any human female for $400, Alex.”

Walking down the street without even so much as glancing in your direction. Yep, it may look like she doesn’t give two shits about you, but smart men know better! Especially if the woman in question HAS ARMS and is wearing CLOTHING and SHOES.

Strutting gorgeously, exuding self-sufficiency with an I-don’t-need-a-man look, the strutter has mastered the art of appearing disinterested in attention, while making a distracting physical display of swinging arms, loudly clopping heels, eye catching attire, and a chin-in-the-air look that begs a second glance from the target males.

But wait, you ask, if these strutting women aren’t looking at the men whose attention they want, how can she tell if she’s HARVESTED THEIR GAZES? It’s all done with mirrors. Or at least with shop windows. Wright claims that women tend to use the

Look At Me Strut … in central business district [sic] where she assiduously scans shopfront windows to capture all those reflected male gazes that her empowered strutting dreams of capturing. Her skill at using shopfront windows to look at both herself and the reflected faces of those gazing at her rises up to an artform that allows her to look sideways and yet not trip over when having little focus on the road ahead.

HOW DEVIOUS ARE THESE SNEAKY SIRENS OF CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT?

Other male-gaze-harvesting tricks include: Talking loudly (with friends) talking loudly (to no one in particular), gesturing, and of course “bamboozaling with boobs.” Strangely, Wright omits the old “drop the handkerchief” ploy, which is totally a real thing that doesn’t just happen in old black and white comedies.

We get letters. And sometimes they’re too good — and I use a very broad definition of “good” — not to share. So here’s one I got the other day from a fellow who calls himself MGTOWabunga, offering a rather detailed, er, critique of We Hunted the Mammoth and its readers.

I feel fairly certain that Mr. Abunga has not actually read more than about five words of the blog.

How f*cking typical is it, for a slobbering horde of wannabe cop-killing vagina knights and window smashing booger sluts, who sing the praises of terrorists like the Black Panthers, to back down and clutch pearls when the dog shit is on the other foot.

MGTOWabunga does have a way with words!

You animals prize violence and you know it – you invite terrorists into society in the hopes that they will erase white civilization through violence and the instatement of sharia law, you agitate through timber-rattling bedlam for the forceable exchange of resources from the producers of society to the lowly jack-booted masked sickle-and-hammer sporting, unwashed plankton-eaters in black bloc …

… and you riot like disorderly she-tornados and werebonobos whenever some person with more melanin in their skin than the law allows gets shot for fighting with the police.

Or shot in the back while walking away from the police. Or for being a 12-year-old playing with a toy gun.

If self-awareness could be stored in a checking account, you numbskulls would have overdraft fees that even Bill Gates couldn’t cover. I don’t see anything wrong with what Trumpsters are doing;

“Trumpsters?” You mean the guys who show up at demonstrations with sticks and shields and helmets and shin-guards? You know, like “based stickman” here, already the subject of countless adoring alt-right memes?

… all I see are people who are tired of being assaulted and harassed by poorly-dressed vandals who idolize Bakunin and think that such corner stones of civilized society like “freedom of speech” are instruments of oppression manufactured by white bourgeois despots to provide cover to “fascists” (read: anyone to the right of Trotsky).

You know, I’m fairly certain this “fascist,” shown here at that recent Berkeley thing, doesn’t really merit the scare quotes.

And, hey, it’s Andrew Anglin from the Daily Stormer, in case the name of his website and his harassment of Jews and his frequent paeans to Hitler weren’t enough of a clue.

So, yeah, while it is kind of a political cheap trick to call people fascists when they’re not fascists, the alt-right today is lousy with honest-to-goodness no-scare-quotes actual real no-kidding genuine draft fascists. So I think that’s maybe what we’ll be calling them?

Boy, remember back when Godwin’s Law was a real thing and not just some faint fond memory?

I don’t condone violence and I have no intention of practicing it, but when you start destroying things, punching people, threatening to kill cops and “fascists,” and vandalizing buses driven by people that you don’t like,

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that no one here is destroying things, punching people, threatening to kill cops and “fascists” (or even fascists). Some of us, it’s true, may have laughed a little at a video of one fascist (no scare quotes) getting punched, because, you know, HE’S A FUCKING NAZI. And it’s possible that some of us don’t really feel terrible that a bus on a cross-country transphobic hate tour got spraypainted because, you know, the people driving the bus don’t think trans folks have a right to exist.

… you forfeit any claim that you might have that you are “peaceful protestors,” and that your rights need to be respected …

But when literal neo-Nazis show up to demonstration with helmets and shields, and start literally hitting people with sticks, their rights do need to be respected?

Christopher Cantwell: “We have done everything in our power to keep this peaceful.”

Call it a tale of two videos. On Monday, Vice News released a mini-documentary on “Race and Terror” in Charlottesville chronicling the #UniteTheRight march of this past weekend and the murder of antifascist activist Heather Heyer.

Some of the most chilling moments in the highly disturbing video, as I noted yesterday, came courtesy of Men’s-Rights-Activist-turned-white-supremacist Christopher Cantwell, one of the scheduled speakers at the abortive rally, who proudly showed off his numerous guns for the cameras before telling Vice News that he considered the weekend to have been a huge victory for the cause of white nationalism.

The fact that nobody on our side died, I’d go ahead and call that points for us. The fact that none of our people killed anybody unjustly, I think is a plus for us. And I think that we showed our rivals we won’t be cowed. 

When Vice News reporter Elle Reeve gently suggested that the ISIS-style car attack that left Heather Heyer dead was “unprovoked,” Cantwell was indignant.

“That’s not true and you know that’s not true,” he tells her. After accusing antifa “animals” of attacking the car, Cantwell declares that the driver had no other option but to “hit the gas.” (In fact, videos show the driver “hitting the gas” when he was more than a block away from protesters, then speeding into the crowd.)

“And sadly,” Cantwell continued,

Cantwell is now singing a rather different tune. In a new video, a tearful Cantwell — who plainly admits he engaged in violence at the rally — laments that a warrant has apparently been issued for his arrest, and that he’s terrified that if he is arrested the police will kill him.

He also fears for his life at the hands of “our enemies, [who’ve] been threatening us all over the place,” taking exception especially to a tweet from Chelsea Manning promising to “curb stomp” fascists. (A somewhat ironic complaint from a guy who used to harass feminists on Twitter with graphic suggestions as to how they might best kill themselves.)

He insists that he and his fellow white supremacists — many of whom, I need not remind you, showed up to their Charlottesville marches heavily armed and armored — have done their best to be peaceful and follow all the rules.

Quite a change from the fellow who only a few days earlier was talking so confidently about the necessity of a white “ethnostate” and coldly predicting that “a lot more people are going to die before we’re done here.”

Before taking up arms as a would-be warrior for a white ethnostate, as I noted in a post yesterday, Cantwell was a race- and gun-obsessed Men’s Rights Activist — and a regular contributor to A Voice for Men.

Here’s the Vice News video; it’s a tough watch but, I think, a necessary one for anyone who reads this blog regularly. While Cantwell is featured throughout the video — spouting an assortment of truly awful things — his sit-down interview with Reeve begins roughly 19 minutes in.

I mean, have you ever heard of such a thing?

Ladies, you may be a little confused by the assertion that horny men pay themselves for sex, but it’s true: Every time a man masturbates, he has to pay himself anywhere from five to twenty dollars (depending on how much equipment is involved).

Vox cries moar

The last time we checked in on the execrable racist fantasy author Theodore “Vox Day” Beale, he was urging his followers to smear leftists by posting fake memes, ostensibly from AntiFa activists, advocating domestic violence against women and children. This kind of dishonesty, he proclaimed, was a particularly “effective” form of “persuasion” that only “spergs” could possibly oppose.

But it turns out that Mr. Day doesn’t admire lying quite so much when people are lying about him.

In recent days, Vox has launched an all-out war on Gab, the “free speech” Twitter alternative that’s become something of a haven for shitlords and Nazis. Vox is angry, you see, that Gab’s admins won’t take down a handful of comments smearing him as a pedophile, apparently posted by several Daily Stormer fans who don’t think Vox is enough of a Nazi to hang with the alt-right.

Gab’s refusal to delete these comments, Vox declared in a post a couple of days ago, makes the site “knowingly complicit in publishing these false, malicious, and defamatory statements.” And so he threatened to unleash his “flying monkey” squad to dox the offending Gab commenters and to task his “Legal Legion of Evil” (no, that’s really what he calls them) with, well, whatever Legal Legions of Evil do.

“[T]he Legal Legion and I,” Vox announced in a followup post,

will be pursuing this matter until the defamation is removed and the @dantheman10, @GTKRWN, and @Fabian_Nazism are forced to answer for their defamatory actions.

In yet another post yesterday, Vox assures his readers that “I am not seeking to harm Gab” before going on to declare that, since “Gab has elected to act as an obstacle to [my] objectives … that obstacle will be removed.”

Vox, as you may have gathered by now, loves to monologue like a cartoon villain.

He’s also been enthusiastically accusing the “Daily Stormpoopers,” as he calls them, of an assortment of things that he is also guilty of. The “stormpoopers,” he rails,

cannot be trusted, ever, since deceit is literally the core of their instruction manual. Lying, exaggerating their influence, and shitting on the carpet of every online abode that welcomes them is the full extent of their accomplishments.

Projection ain’t just a river in Egypt.

Naturally, Vox’s many enemies on Gab have responded with some highly sophisticated arguments of their own. Like calling him “Vox Gay.”

And of course others have been doubling down on the pedophile accusations.

And then of course there are the memes, like this one, comparing Vox with the Daily Stormer’s Andrew Anglin.

Today, Vox Day and Andrew Anglin took their ongoing slap fight to YouTube, ostensibly debating the merits of National Socialism for an hour on something called Reality Calls. I’m sure it was quite, er, informative, but I’m not going to watch it to find out.

This is one of those fights in which you hope all sides lose, big league.

Why do people propagate this message so eagerly these days? I can only guess, but it seems quite clear to me that these people feel some kind of fear towards male sexuality. The male sexual desire itself is somehow scary or dangerous and should be denigrated and slandered so that men would begin to feel shame about their completely healthy desires.

In a certain way, these people want to castrate men: make men into sheepish “gentlemen” who no longer look women with “greedy eyes” and feel sexual desire towards them, or who at least are ashamed of it and keep it to themselves. This is a form of psychological castration and I can only feel a strong sense of contempt towards people who propagate this bullshit. …

The message is a malicious attempt to slander and denigrate normal male sexuality. “Gentleman” here seems to be a man who doesn’t even feel sexual desire towards women anymore and never looks at women with “greedy eyes.” In other words, an abnormal castrate instead of a healthy man. What a truly despicable agenda!

Paul Elam wants your money, again

Paul Elam, the founder of A Voice for Men, has responded to his site’s inclusion on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s official list of hate groups rather predictably, lashing out against the hate-tracking organization with what he thinks is righteous indignation. And then asking people to give him money.

In a post on AFVM Friday, Elam fulminated:

Twenty-five years of speaking out about men’s issues and reaching out to men living in blue pill hell, speaking the truth as I see it has earned me a place in what mainstream sensibilities assumes is the dark underbelly of modern hate. My name forever stained with an allegation that paints me as being at home in white sheets, saluting like a Nazi.

Yeah, it’s not like his actual behavior has had anything to do with this.

I mean, it’s not like this truth-speaking advocate for “male issues” regularly calls women “c*nts.” It’s not as if he once described feminists as “c*ntists” or their sphere of influence online “the c*nt-o-sphere.” It’s not as if he’s constantly trying to come up with excuses to call women “bitches.”

It’s not like he once furiously denounced Valentine’s Day — in a 1300-word post published in, erm, August — as “Whore’s Day,” declaring the majority of women to be candy-and-jewelry-grubbing “whores.” It’s not as if he once used the word “whore” more than two dozen times in an article about a woman he dislikes.

It’s not as if he once asserted that

the only tool [women] have at their disposal to have any sort of influence … is the power of pussy and pussy is powerful indeed.

It’s not as if he once celebrated Mother’s Day by declaring that all mothers — indeed, everyone with a vagina — should be considered responsible for every fetus that has been aborted and every child that has been killed or abused or “pimped out to pedophiles.” It’s not as if he insisted that

If you have a vagina, the blood of all those children, who are abused far more at the hands of women than men, has stained your skin and caked around the cuticles of your fingers.

It’s not as if he once suggested — in a supposedly “satirical” piece that wasn’t actually satirical in any way — that Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October) should be replaced with “Bash a Violent Bitch” Month.

It’s not as if he set up Register-Her, a fake online “registry” designed to equate individual women he dislikes — from feminist writers to actress Katherine Heigl — with murderers and rapists and child molesters. It’s not as if he once told a critic of this “registry” that

I find you so pernicious and repugnant that the idea of f*cking your shit up gives me an erection.

It’s not as if he and his followers have launched harassment campaigns against so many women I’ve lost count.

It’s not as if he celebrated a Men’s Rights activist who killed himself in hopes of inspiring fellow MRAs to start firebombing courthouses and police stations. It’s not as if AVFM posted and publicized the manifesto in which this man explicitly advocated this anti-government terrorism, declaring “boys, we need to start burning down police stations and courthouses.”

It’s not as if he once said that if some family court judge were to be “dragged out of his courtroom into the street, beaten mercilessly, doused with gasoline and set afire by a father who just won’t take another moment of injustice” it “would not … so much be a tragedy as the chickens coming home to roost.”

It’s not as if he once declared:

Should I be called to sit on a jury for a rape trial, I vow publicly to vote not guilty, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that the charges are true.

It’s not as if he once told me to kill myself, or as if one of his followers threatened to “[stomp] a mud hole” in my “f*cking ass and [walk] that motherfucker dry,” whatever that means.

Oh, wait, he did  do each and every one of those things, and many other things like them. As you will see if you start clicking on the links in the above paragraphs.

In his post Friday, though, Elam tried his hardest to portray his hateful self as the real victim here, insisting that

I take the SPLC manufactured crap about who I am what AVFM is about, and I treat it like what it is. Bullying.

The SPLC is trying to scare me into silence. Indeed, they are trying to scare all of us into silence. Mark Potak, absolute scumbag that he is, knows full well that left wing wackaloons out there have used his material to target people for violent action.

Yes, that’s right: The guy who once told one of his critics that “the idea of f*cking your shit up gives me an erection” is accusing someone else of bullying. The founder of Register-Her is outraged that an organization has put him on a list.

Elam is not only angry at the “hate” part of the SPLC’s declaration that AVFM is a “hate group.” He’s also annoyed that they’ve classified AVFM as a “group” at all.

“AVFM is a website,” he insists. Nothing more. … a personal website.”

That’s a little bit strange, given that Elam has insisted many times that his website is more than just a website. He has regularly praised “the team” that has helped him not only with AVFM’s website but also AVFM’s ongoing activist campaigns, such as they are. The site used to have 18 people on its “masthead,” including one now-ex member designated the group’s “Activity Director.” It had (and maybe still has) a “meme team” charged with producing branded, if often baffling, AVFM propaganda.

While AVFM doesn’t hold weekly meetings in a church basement with punch and pie, and while the group is basically a shadow of its former self, with many of its more famous names having departed, it’s hardly a one-man operation, and the group’s forays into “activism” online and off have been organized and coordinated.

But maybe it’s not altogether accurate to call AVFM a group. Would “cult” be better? Former AVFM #2 man Dean Esmay once suggested as much, albeit accidentally, when he Freudian-slipped up and told one critic of the group that AVFM was “a group of volunteers dedicated to a cause, and the cause is Paul Elam.”

Of course, that seems to be how Elam thinks of AVFM as well, at least financially. Indeed, Elam ends his rant against the SPLC by asking his readers to send him sweet, sweet cash and/or bitcoins.

“Batty” offers a nice long list of the terrible things (and allegedly terrible things) that he thinks women have foisted on Western countries.

Nasim Aghdam: 4chan’s “girl” (Meme from 4chan)

When rumors began to spread yesterday afternoon that the YouTube shooter was “a woman wearing a head scarf,” many on the right assumed that their gut instinct was right: the attack on YouTube, although it took no lives other than the shooter herself, was an act of Islamist terrorism. When the name of the shooter was released, and it turned out to be Nasim Aghdam, this was all the confirmation the Islamophobic right needed.

The truth, it quickly emerged, was far stranger than these fantasies. Aghdam wasn’t a Muslim terrorist, or even a Muslim, but Baha’i. She was also a vegan, an animal rights activist, and a prolific, if highly eccentric, YouTube creator who had posted an assortment of dance and exercise videos alongside political rants, in a strange retro style that either indicated deep graphical incompetence or a love of retro seapunk aesthetics.

But it wasn’t, apparently, her animal right activism that inspired her would-be murder spree at YouTube headquarters: it was her anger at the ways, she said, YouTube had “filtered” and “discriminated [against]” her videos, depriving her of the views (and ad revenues) she felt she deserved. YouTube, she charged, was actively working to “censor and oppress people” — like her — “who speak the truth.”

This was a message that turned out to be strangely popular amongst many of those not normally sympathetic to people from the Middle East and nearby environs. These days, many on the right are equally furious at YouTube “censorship,” complaining endlessly that videos from Alt-Rightists and other reactionary shitlords are being demonetized or deleted.

Many of these people — ranging from Trump-loving deplorables to outright Nazis — have taken up the hashtag #CensorshipKills on Twitter and other social media platforms, blaming YouTube for the carnage Aghdam inflicted upon it. Some are basically endorsing her “message” without quite endorsing her actions.

But nowhere was the celebration of this newly christened “Patron Saint of Online Speech” more fervid than on 4chan’s /pol/ board, where countless anons have embraced “our girl” Nasim as free speech martyr, “goddess of retribution,” pinup girl, dream waifu, and worthy successor to mass murderer and incel hero Elliot Rodger. 

“Saint Nasim’s” apotheosis began in earnest more or less as soon as /pol/ discovered that she wasn’t Muslim, that she hated YouTube “censorship” as much as /pol/ regulars do, and that she was, as one put it, both “odd looking [and] oddly attractive.”

The threads devoted to her were (and as of this writing, are) suffused with a mixture of male anger, anti-Semitic hate, hunger for violence, incel sadness and sexual yearning. Denuniciations of “JewTube” alternate with pics and videos of /pol/’s new it-girl designed to highlight her “true aryan beauty” and/or her “Iranian crazy vegan super tities!!!”

For a considerable number of anons, she was the whole package, as these screenshots from just one page of comments on /pol/ will make abundantly clear.

For a few, it was less about Nasim than it was about the alleged evil that is YouTube.

Did I say YouTube? I meant JEWTUBE.

But most were utterly smitten with their new, late queen:

For many anons, the horniness was tinged with sadness:

Lamenting her death, a few spun fantasies of what might have been!

But this horny anon managed to take her death in stride.

Most agreed that she would live on in memory:

For some, she was basically the second coming of Elliot Rodger.

Naturally, there were memes. Perhaps the most memorable was a reworking of a currently popular meme contrasting a poor incels with his nemesis Chad (click on the image for a larger version).

There were a few detractors, of course, including one who found it incomprehensible that /pol/ was falling in love with “a woman? And a brown woman, at that?” And there were those who insisted — damn the media reports to the contrary! —  that she really was Muslim, a charge that inspired some energetic rebuttals. 

Some didn’t approve of her veganism, seeing it as a sign of SJWishness. But others didn’t mind.

Others saw her veganism as a sign of her Aryan purity.

And there was an ongoing debate whether she was “all woman” or a “100% transgender trap,” to use 4chan’s favorite transphobic slur, though many of her fans didn’t care either way.

4chan being what it is, it wasn’t long before a few anons dug up some enigmatic but apocalyptic comments posted before the rampage yesterday that seemed to predict it; most seemed to believe that their new queen had indeed paid them at least one brief visit before, er, martyring herself. Since all comments are anonymous, there’s no way to know if this is true — and indeed, similar claims are made after almost every shooting.

Regardless of whether or not Nasim Aghdam was literally a channer herself, her new fans on /pol/ are certainly convinced they’ve found their girl.

I don’t check Men’s Rights hate site A Voice for Men all that often these days — the world has largely moved on from it and so have I — but I stopped by there yesterday while working on my post about the odious Don Blankenship, and happened to notice that the one and only Paul Elam had weighed in on the Cosby GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY verdict in a post whose title declared bluntly that “we’re all Bill Cosby now.”

As I am definitely not Bill Cosby, and neither is anyone else I know, I decided to force myself to read it. And it was somehow even more ridiculous and offensive than its headline. So much so that even though the news cycle has moved on from the Cosby verdict it’s still worth a detailed examination.

Elam begins with some snark aimed at Cosby’s many accusers:

The #MeToo and #TimesUp crowd is jumping for joy, and undoubtedly a slew of Cosby’s alleged victims are lining up to take aim at pillaging his estate. I can just see them all, jumping up and down like first-graders at the ice cream truck, screaming Me too! Me too!

Elam, the king of projection, assumes that everyone else is as much of a grifter as he is

Gynotrads, too, will be getting their jollies; basking in what they imagine is schadenfreude as Dr. Huxtable is tossed into a small cage to live what will undoubtedly be a much shorter version of what remains of his life.

Apparently “gynotrads” are traditionalists who believe that not every rape accusation is false. As for the rest of the sentence, Elam seems to be confusing the fictional Dr. Huxtable — “America’s Dad” —  with the calculating predator who played him.

Elam goes on to suggest that the only people who think Cosby is really guilty are “those dumb enough to be blue pill; people whose thinking is guided by hash tags and other popular slogans of sexual politics.” Which means that America is pretty much overflowing with said “blue pill” people; a new Economist/YouGov poll found that 57% agreed with the guilty verdict, with only 12% disagreeing.

Turns out that Elam isn’t a big fan of Bill Cosby, not because of the drugging and raping — which he doesn’t think happened — but because Cosby apparently loved women too much.

I am not exactly bleeding sympathy for old Bill. Whether he committed actual sexual assault aside, it is clear that over decades of life he was a completely dedicated pussy hound; a gynocentrist of the first order, driven to arrange his life around women.

Well, driven to arrange his life around DRUGGING AND RAPING WOMEN (allegedly, except for the three counts on which he has been found guilty in a court of law and all the other ones I’m pretty fucking sure happened).

That alone is begging for problems, never mind the abandonment of self and values that come with the territory. Guilty or innocent of the criminal charges, Cosby’s own petard blew up in his face.

Apparently whether or not Cosby DRUGGED AND RAPED DOZENS OF WOMEN isn’t important; as Elam sees it, the real problem is that Huxtable Cosby spent too much time with the evil lady creatures.

And of course, that ought to make any man with a bit of common sense take notice. There but for a streak of dumb luck go a lot of good men.

Hey fellas! I’ve found that one good way to avoid having 60 women accuse you of drugging and raping them over the course of many decades is to NOT drug or rape 60 or more women over the course of many decades. YMMV.

Apparently forgetting that Cosby was found guilty of drugging and raping Andrea Constand  in 2004, Elam then takes us on an extended detour into the

1970’s drug culture, the very environment from which so many allegations sprang; allegations from a slew of women who are bound by two common denominators. Accusations against Bill Cosby and the expiration of their sexual use-by dates.

Creepy old dude who is definitely not aging like fine wine accuses women of approximately his own age of not being sexy enough to meet his exacting standards.

After relating a 70s drug party anecdote that is honestly too boring for me to even summarize, much less quote, Elam offers up these bits of stale, er, wisdom:

I used a lot of drugs. I wasn’t what you call a big-time dealer, though I often did buy drugs in some quantity and sold enough to friends to help defray the cost.

And one thing was certain. Whenever I was flush with drugs, I also had women around me.

I’m sure you had a lot of men around you, too, dude. People who have drugs tend to be popular with people who want or need drugs. That’s kind of how addictive drugs work.

Money and fame both have the same effect. The more you have, the more women flock to you. That was true in the 1970s and it is true today. Resources attracts women like moths to a flame.

Yes, that’s right, Paul, all women are money-grubbing gold-diggers.

You can #MeToo and #TimesUp all day every day but it won’t change the fact that access to resources and power through men is the primary attractor for women. How much action would ugly ass Mick Jagger have seen in his life if he was a cab driver?

Not that I wanted to spend any part of my day defending Mick Fucking Jagger, but he probably would have done fine. If “resources” were all there was to it, there would be as many young women with posters of Jeff Bezos on their wall today as there were with posters of Mick Jagger back in the 1960s and 1970s. Hell, back in the day there were probably as many straight guys with Mick Jagger posters as there were straight girls. It might have had something to do with his charisma onstage, or possibly even the music he made with the Rolling Stones (which, many decades ago, actually didn’t suck).

Speaking of classic cock rock, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Elam wearing Led Zepplin t-shirts. Is he attracted by Robert Plant’s … resources?

And of course, that makes me think about Bill Cosby in the 1970s. Rich, famous, powerful and undoubtedly with access to plenty of drugs. I was a 20-year-old nobody in 1977, and as long as I had drugs I had all the tail I could handle.

I really don’t want to think too much about the possible similarities between Elam and Cosby.

So, I am sitting here wondering just why Cosby was reduced to doping women, slipping them drugs so they’d lose control and he could access them sexually.

Perhaps because he was (is?) a sick, sadistic fuck who got off on that shit?

Oh, but wait. That isn’t what happened. At least not for the three counts of sexual assault for which he was convicted. In reading through accuser Andrea Constand’s account, she didn’t even allege that he slipped her drugs without her knowledge. She alleged that Cosby gave her three pills and some wine, telling her they were just pills that would relax her. …

A grown woman went alone at night to Bill Cosby’s residence after he had twice attempted to have sex with her, took the drugs that he offered without knowing what they were or even asking, had sex, and then sold that story as a rape.

That’s not exactly what happened, according to the story Constand told to the jury, and which the jury concluded was true beyond a reasonable doubt. Her story is that of a young woman who trusted Cosby — and had that trust brutally violated by him. Here’s how Vox described the story she told — and. be warned, I’m including the graphic details here.

Constand said she considered Cosby, then in his 60s, a mentor. In January 2004 at Cosby’s home, she said, he gave her three blue pills that he told her would help to relieve stress. She took them and became unfocused and confused. She said she passed out on the couch.

“I felt Mr. Cosby on the couch behind me, and my vagina was being penetrated quite forcefully, and I felt my breasts being touched,” Constand testified. She said she was too weak to fight Cosby off: “I wanted it to stop,” she said. “I couldn’t say anything. I was trying to get my hands to move, my legs to move, and the message just wasn’t getting there.”

The jury also heard from five other women who said Cosby did much the same to them. Vox again:

The five women, often defiant in the face of sometimes brutal cross-examination, presented a powerful case. Their stories echoed Constand’s own account of confusion, paralysis, and shame as they realized they had been violated. “Here was America’s Dad on top of me,” Janice Dickinson, a former supermodel who said Cosby drugged and raped her in 1982 in Lake Tahoe, said in court, describing her shock during the assault.

Those five accusers and Constand herself withstood the torrent of questions and recriminations from the defense. Some women admitted to confusion about what happened to them decades ago, and that they spent years grappling with their encounters with Cosby. Yet all were adamant about their allegations: They were drugged, they were assaulted, and Cosby did it.

But of course that’s not how Elam sees it. He doesn’t see the betrayal of trust. He blames all of Cosby’s accusers for being gullible fools who — get this! — didn’t automatically assume that a famous man who at the time was almost universally beloved was actually planning to rape them.

It doesn’t cross their minds that the rich, powerful man handing them drugs late at night; men who’ve already established sexual interest, might still have sex in mind.

Poor darling. I am sure she thought Cosby invited her up for a bible study and some Jell-O.

This is in many ways the most insidious part of Elam’s, er, argument — and what makes it a true rape apologia. Even if we were to accept Elam’s premises here — that these women were either gullible idiots or scheming gold-diggers — that still doesn’t make it ok to rape them. Gullibility isn’t consent.

MRAs, including Elam, are forever accusing feminists of painting all men as rapists, which feminists don’t actually do. But here he is attacking women for NOT assuming that the guy widely seen as “America’s Dad” was secretly planning to drug and rape them. And suggesting that this “gullibility” means that whatever this man decided to do to them wasn’t rape.

Elam follows up this bit of rape apologia by referring to Cosby’s accusers collectively as a bunch of “coke whores.”

You may now have a clearer idea as to why the Southern Poverty Law Center recently classified Elam’s AVFM as a “hate group.”

Then we’re back to the 1970s.

No wonder they say we live in a rape culture. At least half the sex between all westerners in the 1970’s was rape, apparently, thanks to retroactive definitions and hashtag movements.

No, not half, but I’m guessing that quite a lot of sex in the 70s would indeed be classified (correctly) as rape today. Guys got away with a lot of sleazy and coercive shit back in those days — especially when they had some sort of power or authority or advantage over the women who were the targets of their lusts. Guys like celebrities, bosses, even small-time drug dealers.

Consensual partying and sex, sends a man to prison decades later, because rape, my friends, is whatever women want it to be.

Bullshit. The law defines rape carefully — and having “sex” with someone who is passed out or so incapacitated they can’t push you away is very clearly rape.

And it’s why they are pushing so hard now for an end to the statute of limitations on sexual assaults. Feminists want to go after any man, and the more powerful the better, at any time, for any reason, and completely crucify him. Not just in the court of public opinion, but in courts of law. Gents, we’re all Bill Cosby now.

If by that last bit Elam means that any man can be instantly brought low by the mere word of a vindictive women, or a bunch of them, not even Bill Cosby is Bill Cosby now. People ignored numerous accusations against Cosby for many years. It wasn’t until 60 — 60! — women came forward that prosecutors were able to get one conviction on three charges. Cosby won’t ever face criminal trial, much less punishment, for any of the other crimes against women he’s been accused of.

Neither will the vast majority of other rapists, whether their crimes happened in the drug scene of the 1970s or last night in the marital bed. Many of the other famous men whose sordid histories have been revealed by #MeToo accusers may never spend a day in criminal court, much less a day in prison.

We do indeed live in a rape culture, and people like Elam are a big part of the reason why.

Candace Owens — self-proclaimed “Red Pill Black” conservative — is having a bit of a moment, hanging out with new Trump fan Kanye West, posing for selfies with Don Jr., getting an effusive Twitter shout-out from Don Sr,, threatening to sue people who talk about her in what she considers the wrong way.

A lot of people have been left wondering just where exactly Owens came from. Well, there’s a bit of a story there.

Long-time readers of this blog first met Owens back in the days of Gamergate, after Zoe Quinn criticized her ill-conceived plan for an “anti-bullying” site that would have basically doxed a bunch of teenagers. After Quinn spoke out, Gamergaters spouting conspiracy theories quickly abandoned their own critiques of Owens and  rallied around her. Owens began spouting conspiracy theories of her own, and, well, let’s just say things got very weird very fast, as they generally seem to do when Owens gets involved in anything.

In several posts, I tried my best to make sense of the whole surreal mess. I’m linking them here because I think they may illuminate a few things about Trump World’s newest heroine.

This post describes what happened immediately after Owens first heard from Quinn. Trust me, the headline (and the snippet from the post below) don’t fully capture the weirdness of the story.

Instead of listening to Quinn, Owens declared war on her, spewing forth dozens of angry and accusatory tweets, charging that Quinn and fellow anti-harassment activist Randi Harper … were somehow the puppetmasters behind a barrage of abusive, threatening, and often blatantly racist anonymous messages that Owens (who is black) started getting not long after news of Owens’ plans hit Reddit and 4chan.

Owens quickly began to sound like every other internet crackpot who sees conspiracies in every Twitter mention.

Man controlling woman with money … or woman controlling man with sex? Only the MGTOWs know for sure

Searching through the archives on Yahoo Answers’ Gender Studies section — which, because the internet is the internet, has been completely overrun with angry lady-haters — I found one anonymous fellow asking a slightly ungrammatical but easily answerable question: “Why women hate MGTOW?”

I can’t speak for women, or even for that relatively small portion of women that even know what MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way) means, but I’m guessing the first answer that pops to mind for most MGTOW-haters is: Because MGTOWs keep promising to go their own way, but they never seem to actually do it.

Our anonymous MGTOW friend doesn’t agree, though his attempts to further explain the question inadvertently provide an answer before he gets around to offering his own explicit answer (which happens to be wrong).

He begins by sketching out a vision of sexual and romantic relationships between men and women that is not only oversimplified to the point of absurdity but also rather chilling.

If women control men through sex and attraction then it could be said that men control women through access to resources.

Well, that’s a scary way to look at relationships — as a perpetual war for control in which women manipulate with sex and men with money. And if women control men with their sex appeal, what happens when they hit, say, age 80? Do their husbands cash in their remaining retirement savings to so in search of a younger model?

When women didn’t work men controlled women by controlling the purse strings. Now women have jobs so men can’t put money over women’s heads.

Women have always worked, of course, but apparently it’s unfair to men for women to earn their own money from work because then men can’t control them?

And society doesn’t accept and allow violence so men don’t really have control over women in modern society.

Fucking hell. Why does every MGTOW (not to mention every MRA, every incel, every Red Piller) seem to think like an abuser?

Women are free to do whatever they want.

The horror!

Women of course still use their looks and appearance to attract and manipulate men and society doesn’t see this as against the law. It’s just a harmless lie right?

Women’s “looks and appearance” (which are apparently different things) are a LIE? HOW? Because women wear makeup to look sexier than they “really” are? Because they wear clothing that doesn’t completely hide their body but don’t offer said body to every man who wants to have sex with them?

And how would one go about making it illegal for women to look attractive to men? Would especially “hot” women have to get plastic surgery to look worse?

But men are waking up to this and realizing we don’t have power in relationships and our dealings with women so why bother if all we do is give and all women do is take. 

If this is how you think relations between (straight) men and women work. I’m pretty sure very few women will be terribly troubled if you stop bothering about relationships — or, more to the point, bothering them.

And why are many women in the western world unsatisfied what we men do every single time? If we reject a woman, her friends would also take it personally and attack the man.

Has this ever happened in the history of MGTOWism? I mean, for real, not in their fevered imaginations. It’s hard for me to imagine a woman who wouldn’t be relieved to be “rejected” by one of these creeps.

You know that if we go our own ways in life, you are no value to us. Of course, that is a threat to women.

Insofar as you guys pose a “threat” to women, this isn’t it. I’d be glad to see you guys truly go your own way — preferably far away, like desert island far — and so would every woman I know who even knows what you guys are. The only threats you pose to women is that you won’t go — that you’ll stick around to harass and threaten women online and off, to inflict violence on women, or ever to follow some of your incel brothers by outright murdering people.

Just please go already.

Perhaps even more chilling than this MGTOW’s weird little post is that fact that he has simply stated — albeit in a crude and overly schematic way — what many leading Men’s Rights Activists think. It was Warren Farrell, you may recall, who warned his fellow men of the “miniskirt power” and “cleavage power” women are said to have over even the most powerful men — and who put a naked women’s ass on the cover of the 25th Anniversary edition of his book The Myth of Male Power to remind men of the allegedly fearsome power of  a shapely lady dumper.

These aren’t fringe ideas amongst misogynists. They’re central to their worldview. And that — not the attempts by a subculture of angry dudes to boycott the so-called sexual marketplace  —  is a real threat to women.

Is Reddit finally learning how to ban correctly?

On Monday, Reddit site admins banned the MillionDollarExtreme subreddit, ostensibly for hosting “violent content,” though this was merely one small part of what made the subreddit, a forum devoted to the alt-right’s favorite alt-comedy group, the foul and eminently bannable cesspool that it was.

Then earlier today Reddit took down the much larger and more influential GreatAwakening subreddit, the internet’s main hangout for QAnon conspiracy theorists too old or addled to figure out how to use 8chan, for harassment and violent threats, many of them directed at Hillary Clinton.

When the users of these banned subreddits scurried to hastily constructed replacement subreddits designed to circumvent the bans, Reddit shut these down as well.

[UPDATE: On Thursday night, Reddit also closed the nasty SJWhate subreddit.]

These new bans — in particular the bans of the replacement subreddits — have some wondering if Reddit is finally beginning to take hate speech — and the often violent harassment it encourages — with something approaching seriousness.

As The Verge puts it,

While previous Reddit bans have come about mostly as a result of external pressure, these are the first higher-profile bans directly tied to Reddit’s new, more explicit content policy, which was rolled out in October 2017. After years of inconsistency from the company’s leadership, the site’s handling of this set of bans suggests a more codified strategy being implemented across the board for policing toxic users. 

In the past, The Verge notes, bans of such noxious subreddits as r/Jailbait and r/PicsofDeadKids were

more or less … one-off response[s] to lengthy campaigns from users, media, and the general public. … As Reddit has grown more popular, it’s become increasingly obvious that the norms and implied protections the site has offered are inadequate. Despite CEO Steve Huffman’s continued waffling in his resolve to ban Reddit’s worst actors, a change seems to be afoot.

It’s not completely clear what, specifically, triggered these latest bans. A new and still relatively small subreddit called TheBanout2018, devoted to banning as many of the worst subreddits as possible, is claiming at least some of the credit. But Reddit hasn’t been terribly receptive to similar campaigns in the past — not without massive media attention —  and so it’s hard to tell if this latest one has actually played a significant role in bringing about the bans.

Regardless, some of the worst Redditors out there are freaking out, worrying that their favorite Reddit hangouts — from TheRedPill to r/MGTOW to The_Donald — will be next.

In TheRedPill, mods are urging subscribers to bookmark their off-Reddit alternative site TRP.RED, while Terpers themselves are talking as if they are fighting to protect the last dying embers of Western Civ.

In r/MGTOW, the regulars can’t seem to decide whom to blame, with prospective villains ranging from the Deep State to, er, Serena Williams?  (Don’t ask me to explain that one.) Some are convinced it’s part of a devious plot to sway the upcoming elections.

Whatever the motive, the bans have left noted MGTOW philosopher BitchesBHating worried that we are entering dark times indeed.

Reddit’s Bannables agree on one thing: they’re so opposed to all this evil banning that they want TheBanout2018 banned at once. Indeed, they’ve started up their own subreddit, BanBanouts, to push their anti-banning ban. As the subreddit’s mods explain in their sub’s sidebar:

This might be a lot funnier were it not for the fact that the banned subreddits were — and the others possibly on the chopping block still are — energetic encouragers and exporters of the rankest hatreds, and that the worst of these subreddits have caused real damage to decent people by encouraging and enabling online and real-world harassment and violent threats. So, yeah, I’m not going to apologize for wanting this shit banned.

Let’s hope that Reddit is indeed taking a new and stricter stance towards the hatred and harassment that their platform has enabled over the years — and that the bannings of the GreatAwakening and MillionDollarExtreme subreddits and their various attempted replacements are merely the start of a much wider, and long overdue, crackdown.

I’m not sure I buy it, but we’ll see.

PS: Hey, did I mention that Amazon banned a bunch of books by Roosh? Well, it did.

Roosh V, sadly realizing his 15 minutes are up

Roosh V is having another sad. Just three weeks after Amazon stopped selling nine of his books, the date rape expert, baking enthusiast and former Most Hated Man in the World has decided to shut down his flagship Return of Kings website. In a post on the site today, Roosh announced that

I’m putting ROK on an indefinite hiatus so I can take a break from the daily grind of maintaining the site. I don’t know when the hiatus will end.

The reason? A mixture of deplatforming and nobody giving a shit about him any more.

The first factor for this hiatus is that site revenues are too low. We’ve been banned from Paypal and countless ad partners, which forced me to lay off the site editor last year and also lower payments to regular contributors.

Huh. Apparently deplatforming hate sites works.

This started a negative spiral of declining content quality, site traffic, and revenues.

“Declining content quality?” Dude, the “content quality” on Return of Kings was a big fat zero to begin with. How exactly can something get worse than worst?

Even the beloved comments section, which many see as the highlight of ROK, was badly hit when Disqus banned us. Currently, ROK receives half the traffic of its peak and less than one-fifth of the income.

Your schtick has gotten old and tired, dude.

The second factor is that I’m burned out. Keeping ROK updated, writing books, posting articles on my blog, doing live streams, and maintaining the forum has put too much on my plate.

Aw. Work is hard.

Out of everything on that list, working on ROK has become my least favorite activity because duties are centered more around editing other people’s work than creating my own.

I can see why he might feel burned out editing crap for his crap site every day. I feel tired just skinning the headlines on Return of Kings.

I’m sure many of you understand that we are in the early stages of a censorship wave that will sweep through society. Scoundrels like myself get banned first, and then soon the hammer will come down on anyone who dares to share the truth. 

Roosh wants us to believe that “censorship” — by which he means getting kicked off of platforms like PayPal for violating their rules on hate speech — is driving him out of business. While it’s certainly true that deplatforming makes life more difficult for hate-speechifiers like Roosh, that’s not why his traffic is down.

No, that slump in traffic is far more likely to be the result of two other factors. The first has nothing to do with Roosh himself: the fact is that traffic has fallen considerably at independent media sites across the political spectrum due in large part to changes Facebook has made since the 2016 election to the way it handles its news feed. (Indeed, Facebook used to be the single biggest social media source of traffic for We Hunted the Mammoth by far, but now it’s been overtaken by Twitter. )

But I’m guessing that most of the fall in Roosh’s traffic can be attributed to the fact that people — Roosh fans and Roosh critics alike — have just gotten sick of his shit.

Roosh first gained notoriety as a pickup artist selling a distinctly rapey kind of dating advice, winning himself worldwide infamy after a supposedly satirical article calling for the legalization of rape on private property. For a time, Roosh was able to successfully monetize his notoriety with endless outrage-by-the-numbers clickbait articles on Return of Kings.

But ultimately it became clear to his fans and critics alike that the profoundly unoriginal Roosh had run out of things to say, and they stopped paying attention to him. Even his publicity stunts don’t garner him any publicity any more. It’s hard not to be reminded of the famous Onion headline: “Marilyn Manson Now Going Door-To-Door Trying To Shock People.” 

The weirdest thing about Roosh’s decline and fall is that it’s not like misogyny has gone out of style. To the contrary. While Roosh bemoans the unfairness of a world that no longer cares what he says, Jordan Peterson is soaking up all the attention once given to Roosh and then some; meanwhile, other internet misogynists who came up alongside Roosh — most notably Mike Cernovich and Stefan Molyneux — seem to have little trouble getting people to listen to them. The difference? For better or worse, these guys know how to keep it fresh.

Hopefully all of these terrible men will end up no more than footnotes in hisotry. In the meantime, let’s wish Roosh Godspeed on his journey to oblivion.

As The Daily Beast’s Will Sommer noted on Twitter earlier today, the right-wing fake-news site The Gateway Pundit “is extremely into calling the caravan migrants ‘virile.'”

Indeed, in four separate posts on the caravan of migrants and refugees currently making its way from Honduras to the United States, the Gateway Pundit writer Cristina Laila has tried to present the caravan as consisting mostly of men she describes variously as “military-aged, virile male Hondurans,” “military-aged, virile mostly Honduran males” and “military-aged virile males.”

Laila insists that “the women and children [in the caravan] are being used as media props and human shields,” obscuring the fact that this is a manly man “invasion.”

This is hardly the first time that paranoid racists have portrayed young male refugees of color as sexual interlopers trying to “invade” mostly white nations. For the past several years, similar complaints about “virile” male refugees of African and Middle-Eastern descent have been all over Twitter.

And where Twitter trolls go, elected GOP officials are sure to follow. Indeed, in remarks during a House Committee on Foreign Affairs hearing on refugees in 2015, California Congressman Dana Rohrabacher raised the specter that “trainloads” of “very virile young men” from the Middle East were trying to sneak into Western Europe by pretending to be “desperate refugees,” something he said was “frankly very upsetting to me.”

But if you want to see the far-right in full psychosexual meltdown over too-sexy refugees, you have to turn to the virtual pages of The Daily Stormer, which regularly portrays brown and black refugees as sex-crazed “rapefugees” bent on the sexual conquest of white women.

While the Stormer’s attacks on refugees drip with racist hatred, the site’s writers direct much of their vitriol at white women whom the Stormer deems insufficiently racist towards the non-white “invaders.” As the Stormer sees it, this friendliness towards refugees is the result of the illicit hunger of white women for hunky men of color. Not that anyone at the Stormer would phrase it quit that way. They are a bit more, er, salty.

In a 2015 post titled “The Greasiest Cuckolding of All,” Daily Stormer head boy Andrew Anglin declared that “[t]he White European female’s craving for Black dick threatens to collapse civilization itself.”

And he was just getting started.

White women across the Western world have been put in control of Western societies, and they are using this control to ensure an endless supply of Black and Arab men to satisfy their depraved sexual desires. …

White women – an undetermined percentage of them, but apparently most – are calling for Europe to be flooded with Black and Arab men so they can have sex with them. They are using the resources of White men to feed and clothe these objects of their sexual desire.

German women regularly get all up on men in refugee camps and attempt to have sex with them publicly.

Angela Merkel is said to require “dicks numbering in the hundreds per week” to satisfy her terrible urges.

Psychologists are uncertain about the nature of the drive of these White women to engage in bestial sex with unevolved monkeymen, but the running theory is that they do this because White men have become cowardly f**gots, incapable of arousing sexual desire in their own females.

He goes on like this for several hundred more words, but I think you’ve probably gotten the gist of his argument already.

“Black dick” — and brown dick, and indeed virtually every kind of dick that is not of a predominantly pinkish hue — has loomed large in the imaginations of white racists for centuries. Sometimes the white obsession with black and brown sexuality was about fear: Lynchings of alleged, usually falsely accused, black “rapists” were as much about reassuring sexually paranoid whites of their cultural virility as they were about terrorizing the black population.

Other times it was mostly about titillation — as in the countless mid-twentieth century movies and pulp novels about “taboo” interracial relationships. Most of the time, though, fear and fascination were so intertwined it was impossible to separate the two emotions; for countless vivid and horrifying examples, see the pop culture imagery of the “black brute” posted online by the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia at Ferris State University.

Now the Gateway Pundit is directing a very similar sort of mingled fear and fascination at the, er, “military-aged, virile mostly Honduran males” who make up part of the caravan marching north through Mexico, still more than a thousand miles from the US border. As the caravan heads further north, I suspect, the uglier the rhetoric on this side of the border will get, and the more we’ll hear about the allegedly dangerous “virility” of young Honduran males.

So congratulations to the Gateway Pundit’s  Cristina Laila — for being many decades behind the times, and yet somehow also ahead of the curve.

At yet another of his endless series of rallies this Wednesday night, Donald Trump responded to the news that pipe bombs were sent to the homes and offices of a number of his top Democratic bete noires, as well as to CNN, another favorite Trump target, by offering only the vaguest possible condemnations of these acts of terrorism.

He decried the current poisonous state of political discourse, without acknowledging himself as the prime poisoner, And then he launched into a tirade blaming the news media for its alleged “endless hostility and constant negative and oftentimes false attacks.” It’s almost as if he were suggesting that CNN deserved to receive the bomb found in its mailroom today.

The White House reportedly has not reached out to any of the Democrats targeted in the bomb attacks.

Trump’s graceless and self-serving response to this attempt to kill many of his most hated political opponents speaks volumes about the man. And so do the responses of many of his biggest fans online and in the right-wing media world. I’ve spent much of the day scanning the responses to the bombings amongst the MAGA crowd on Twitter and Gab, and let’s just say it hasn’t been pretty.

Most of the devoted MAGAheads seem to be going with the claim that this was all a “false flag” by the Dems — possibly paid for by George Soros, who was himself targeted with a mail bomb only a few days ago.

Quite a few of the false flag theorists appear unaware that caps-lock can be turned off.

Other conspiracy theorists constructed their tweets almost entirely out of hashtags.

For this fellow, the only real bomb is that … caravan of Honduran refugees.

A few ingenious tweeters even managed to work the NPC meme into the mix.

This guy thinks it’s all an elaborate plot to distract from … tech companies reporting strong earnings.

Some of the false flag theories have gotten fairly baroque already:

Only some of the “false flag” criers tried to offer any proof to back up their claims. As for those who did, let’s just say that their arguments are a little less than airtight.

Some think it has to be a liberal/lefty plot because if right-wingers had sent bombs in the mail, the bombs would have worked.

Some suggest that it has to be an inside job on the part of the Dems — because Florida Dem Debbie-Wasserman Schultz put her return address on the bombs!

THEY LITERALLY THINK THE FACT THAT WHOEVER SENT THE BOMBS PUT HER (MISSPELLED) NAME ON IT … PROVES IT WAS REALLY HER.

One of the many pushing this particular angle? Sarah Palin. But there were many more.

My favorite galaxy-brain version of this argument? That Wasserman-Schultz put her own address on the bombs … to draw attention away from her!

Wheels within wheels.

After the crowd at Trump’s rally today started chanting “lock her up” — this was before Trump himself went onstage — many liberal and lefty observers wondered aloud if that chant might change to “blow her up” (or “blow them up”) later in the evening. It didn’t, but some in MAGA-land clearly think that prospect is hilarious.

Of course, many of the MAGAheads insisting that they would prefer locking her up to blowing her to bits say it’s because they want the chance to watch her suffer … before she is executed. 

We’re down the rabbit hole now. And the rabbit hole is full of shit.

Incels: Not afraid to take on the truly important issues

It’s been a few days since I last checked in on the Incels. Last time they were talking about how utterly unfair it is for women to be disgusted by their farts — when everyone knows that women just love it when Chads fart. 

What are they talking about today on the Incels.is forum? All sorts of lovely things, mostly related to how much they hate women — and how utterly unfair it is that the women they hate won’t have sex with them. Also that thing above from a dude who gets horny looking at his computer mouse. And some other topics that are somehow even more horrible than that.

Here, in no particular order, are 14 of the top headlines I found on the site today. (I’m not linking to any of the topics directly; you’ll have to Google them.)

GOSH I DON’T KNOW, DUDE, WHY ON EARTH COULD THAT BE

To answer a few questions you might have after reading these headlines:

No-Toothbrush Guy maintains that brushing your teeth isn’t necessary if you eat properly.

Ass-eating Dude says he’s serious, and claims he’ll upload a video of it in a little over a year if he hasn’t lost his virginity by then. The prospect of having to do this will help motivate him to approach women, he claims. “I have been practicing and doing stretches everyday,” he writes, “so I should be able to reach in about 2 months and from there I’ll just practice actively eating my own ass.”

The “JB” Guy is talking about “jailbait” — specifically girls aged 10-15. Last I checked, every single incel responding to his post agreed with him that underage girls are the most attractive and that all men are secretly into them.

Revenge Dude lays out a plan, which I dearly hope will never be put into practice, in which he would 1) pose as a so-called Chad on Tinder, 2) get all of a woman’s info ,including her phone number,  3) make a fake escort profile using this information and finally, 4) send this profile to her friends and family members.

As I’ve said before, the tragedy here isn’t that these guys aren’t getting laid; it’s the possibility that some of them someday will. Most of these guys probably shouldn’t even be allowed to be in the same room with a woman, and should definitely not be left alone within several hundreds yards of girls under the age of 16.
